Creating a Website: Homepage

 Today in week 5, I will be creating a new website using Wix. From now on, I will be showcase all of my graphic design project in this website and for proposing all my university project throughout the term. 

I starting by searching Wix.com in the google search bar. It should bring me to Wix websites where there will be a "Get started" button. I clicked on that and it brought me into pages requiring me to signing up for an account. For my university websites purposes, I will be using my university gmail account. To do that, I clicked on Continue with Google and a new site should pop up with options to choose which account. I chose my De Montfort University gmail account and my account in Wix should be created. 

Now I am going to create a website with homepage first. I do that by sliding to the top left corner of the websites, button with All sites. I click on that and there is an options Create New Site and I click on that to begin create my first ever websites. After click on that, a new websites open asking for me to use AI to help develop my websites. I click on Set up without AI as using AI for academic purposes is essentially a academic offence. Need to avoid that at all cost. Next, it asking me what kind of websites am I creating. I put it as Graphic Design because that is my progression route throughout my whole year in the university. After that, the sites ask me what would I like to call my websites. I click on it and call it Syafiqgraphicdesign as this name can be change anytime. I will customize everything in my websites so I skip the part of additional stuff to add. Now, on the same sites, I can customize my websites by clicking on Use a template. It bring me into another sites full of template. Now, on the top right, I can search what template related to my progression route. I type Graphic Design and many template listed. After gone through the template I finally choose what catch my eyes. The template are customizable so I will not use the template as my real websites.

The reason I picked this template is because of the design of the user interface are simple and easy to navigate. Also, the colour of purple are very well blended which is my favourite colour. Now I have chose my template, I want to customize it.

The first thing I do is, I change the homepage to my name. I change it to Syafiq Faesal  with the style heading 3*, using the Poppins Semi Bold font with 140 size. I also change the sub heading to Graphic Design with Heading 6* style, pair with Poppings Extra Light font in 24 font size. This will show that my purposes of this websites is my graphic design works. 

 Afterwards, I want to change the background image to my chosen image. First thing first, I go to Unsplash where I can get a free copyright image. I do that by search Unsplash in the google search engine, and search for unsplash.com. Then, on a search box, I search Graphic Design for images that related to my progression route. After scrolling, I found the right one for me. I download that image and put it into my desktop. Back to the Wix Website Editor, to change the background of my websites, I left click on the background image and click on Change Background. Then, a box pop up, I click on image. Another box pop up for me to choose an image for my background. At the top left of the box, I click on Upload Media and Upload from computer. I navigate the location that I saved the picture from Unsplash and open it. Now the background of my websites changed.

After that, I want to change the copyright into mine. I scroll down to the footer of my websites and change the copyright into my name. I did this by double right click on the text and type my name and change the year

There is a chat box in my bottom right, I delete that by click on it and press Delete button my keyboard. Next, I move my home page name to the header. I did that by click on my text and move it into the header. 

Next steps, I want to edit the pages menu. I delete all the unnecessary menu and add new options. I did this by slide to the left bar menu, slide to Sites Pages and Menu. To delete, there is a 3 dots at the right site of the box, click it and click delete. Then I add new pages. bottom of the menu there is add and I click on that. A new pages will open asking what kind of pages I want. For now I am going to keep it blank. Then pages created and I have to rename it. I do this for 3 times and rename those to Portfolio, Projects, Contact.

The colour of the background is too dark, I change to light purple. I right click on the background and click on Change Header Design. At the bottom of the menu, there is customize design options, I click on that and slide to Fill colour & Opacity. On the background options, I click on the colour box and change to light purple. I keep the opacity 100%. Now my background colour is change.

Last but not least, I slide to top right of my window and click on save so all my progress are guarantee saved. To make sure everything is functional and tidy. I click to preview at the top corner of my windows. This will show the preview of your website and you can check if everything is working properly without publish it. That's all for now creating my homepage. I might change some details on my homepage later. Next post I will be posting about Contact pages in my websites.

Now, I want to see how my homepage should look like in the mobile view because I know majority people will access this websites in their mobile phones. I did this by, clicking on the mobile icon on the top left bar. Now I can see my homepage in mobile view. For now, there is no error on my homepage in mobile preview. So I did not change anything and save it.
