In the end of week 6, we did some experimentation to something that related to our projects for enhancing our ideas in many aspects. For my projects, making an album cover, I am experimenting colour palette for my album. I have decided to make Japanese style, so colour palette that I am going to experimenting with is Japanese colour palette and using collage technique to make album design.

This is my setup after I look at example how Naomi show me how to do it. Naomi also came with a great idea using tea as a colour of the paper to evoke the vintage album cover design style. After that, I searched for example of Japanese album cover in 80s, and the results is amazing.

When I looking at the great example of the Japanese album cover, I discovered that Japanese album style has this very iconic colour palette. The colour that typically used is red, blue, jade green, purple and pink. However all this colour has this specific colour and that give the essence of Japanese. The top colour is the colour of the tea to make the album colour look aesthetically vintage.
Collage 1The first design that I came up with an idea making the bar title of the album on the left and the main design is on the left. The title of the design is reflected by the main design of a woman living happily in a big mansion. The word of just saying random words but the sub text of "feel extraordinary" really shows the design of the woman. After making this design, I found that I am lack of colour palette in my design. So the next design, I am going to emphasize more into colour usage that I am going to apply in my design.

Second collage that I made, I tried to insert some colour palette into my design. The initial colour that I tried here is lime green, light blue and a bit of dark red. Before pasting all the colour, I make sure to spread the tea all around the canvas for vintage design. Next, I took all of the colour from the paper magazine and tear it off, paste it into my canvas as a background. Than I am thinking of the logo that suit for this album. I found a great elegant logo that suit for the album and I paste it on the top right side of the design. Then, for the subject, I found a great duo of women with a bright background of pink colour. I tear it and paste on it at the left side. The reason of I tear it instead of scissor it because I want the tear effects in my design. Also, I left the right side a white space because the reference that I reference too left a white space. If I made this digitally, I would definitely put a description of text on the white space to fill up the space.

Collage 3
Last but not least of my collage album cover design, I tried to use the left bar side fill with green. I found a perfect texture for it too which is a grass texture. Then to not make it look too plain, I add a text that trying to describe the context of this design. I put it slightly diagonal on purpose so it look more natural. On the main design on the right, I tried to find a good background with dark colour for 2 different side, which is on top and on the bottom. I did this to make the subject more standing out. I found the 2 dark background with great texture and picture too. The top one is showing something that from the sky meanwhile the bottom make it more look like a foreground which is a blue wall. After that, the subject that I got is not necessarily bright, and I think that is the reason that my subject is not that appealing. Next time, I would choose a better subject that wear something outstanding and bright so it does not look sunk.
